My little Princess!

So here we are, Emmalyn is just about 8.5 months old and she is army crawling. Before I know it she will be running and I will wonder where the time went! She is so funny! She makes the best faces. She will scrunch up her nose and purse her lips together and her eyes squeeze shut and she give the cheesiest grin. I have yet to capture it in a picture, but I hope I can one day, it my favorite. She loves all her brothers, and will laugh and laugh at them all day long, it is so cute! She is on 14 pounds and just the tiniest thing. The doctors don't seem too worried about it yet, so hopefully she will start filling out soon. I held her 2 cousins (at different times) on Sunday and they are both way more solid than she is. One is 4.5 months and the other is just barely 2 months. They weigh less than her, but you can feel the difference almost immediately, it made me laugh.
She is getting to be quite the eater. She loves food, but I am terrible and remembering she is old enough to need to eat more than just nursing. This transition is always the one that I struggle with remembering to do. That is so bad, but they all have lived. :)
She is still a momma's girl mostly. Don't get me wrong, she LOVES her daddy, and if for some reason he misses her in the rounds of greetings when he gets home, she lets him know that it isn't OK by her. She is by far our most cautious baby, especially when it comes to people. She has had to "warm up to" 2 of her aunts, one of which we see all the time. She will look to us to see if it is OK to even smile at someone that she isn't sure she "knows," the boys were NEVER like that. They would and will talk to just about anyone that will listen. I love that they are friendly and generally trusting, but at times it can be a little bit nerve-wracking and scary.
We love our little girl and are so happy and blessed to have her be a part of our family. She is truly the princess and I hope I can instill that in her so that she will have the confidence to take on life.

Patrick

What can I say about my baby boy! Well, for starters he isn't really a baby anymore, and if he is technically, he is quickly approaching the finish line of that part of life. He is a stinker and a crack up! He is constantly making us laugh and want to pull our hair out at the same time. We call him Josh 2.0 and if you spent any kind of time with our family you would totally understand why we do.  (Hello, at 18 months he had 6 staples in his head)
Lately his vocabulary has been exploding! He didn't really say many decernable words except for like mom, dad, ball and sister, but boy in the last month or so he says all kinds of things. Mom, dad, ball, sister, side (outside), blanket, mine, no, thank you, Josh (only 1 and he was yelling at him), dog. I am almost positive there are more but those are the ones I can think of.
It makes me sad to think he is growing up so quickly, and at the same time really very excited! This picture was taken coming home from This is the Place Heritage Park, part of our stay-cation that I will blog soon. I love it, it makes me smile! He was totally exhausted and wanted both! Like I said, he makes us laugh...a lot!

One month pictures

My sister in law took these pictures of Emmalyn when she was a month old. The rainbow blanket that she is wrapped in was mine as a baby. I love that I can pass it on to my daughter! Towards the end Emmalyn was just done and that is why in some of the pictures with others in them she looks a little unhappy, it has nothing to do with who is with her, just that she had put up with enough and wanted to sleep and eat! Thanks Renee, I love these, they are awesome!

The Story

OK, so I know that I have been REALLY bad at the blogging thing lately. I just haven't been feeling it, so shoot me! :) I have been feeling the need to post about Emmalyn's debut for a while before I forget the details, so here goes!

I had been to the hospital 4 times with false alarms before going for the actual party! I would be having contractions but they weren't doing anything and they weren't registering on the monitor! This frustrated me until they wouldn't register when I and the nurses knew I was in full blown labor. Even the big ones only registered at tiny blips on the paper...it was weird! I sat at 5 centimeters dilated for like a week and a half! Talk about frustrating! Well, I went in for my last Dr appt on May 9th and my doctor tells me "I'm gonna say your a six and send you in. Let's have a baby!" Her concern was that I was dilated so much and my previous labor was only 3.5 hours and this time I was Group B Strep positive and so I would need antibiotics before delivery. So we went to McDonald's to get Peter some food and off to the hospital we went!

Here's how the day went:

  • 12:30pm - Dr appt 6 cm
  • 1:15pm - checked into the hospital and ready to go
  • 2:00pm - IV of antibiotics is started (1st dose)
  • 5:30pm - 2nd dose of antibiotics started (still a 6)
  • 6:15pm - pitocin started
  • 6:30pm - water broken (cervix thins and baby drops)
  • 7:30pm - 7cm
  • 8:30pm - 8 cm
  • 8:40pm - epidural given
  • 9:20pm - 10 cm and doctor is getting called
  • 9:42pm - We have a daughter!!!!
I had decided that since Emmalyn was our last baby, I would try and see if I could do it without an epidural. I went for 2 hours and dilated 2 cm without any pain meds! I was pleased with myself for making it that far and long on my own!

So, my nurse checks me and I am 10 so she goes to call the doctor. She comes back and I tell her that I am experiencing lots of pressure! She checks me again to make sure that the baby wasn't crowning and she says "Weird, it feel like she went back up. If Julia (my Dr) doesn't get here soon, this baby is going to have a major case of cone head!" I laughed and laid back to wait patiently! My doctor gets there and we start pushing. As I am pushing I am watching everyone's faces around me. The Dr and Peter have kind of weird looks on there faces. My doctor is encouraging me to push harder and go for it. Then words come out of her mouth I would never have imagined would come out! "Holy crap, she's breech!" I was shocked and Peter relieved because he couldn't figure out why her head looked so weird!! :) She delivered in 3 pushes, 1 contraction and  we were both just fine! We were the talk of the maternity ward the 2 days we were there! They don't allow women to deliver vaginally when the baby is breech. The funny thing is, is that she flipped in like the last half hour of labor! We were all shocked and couldn't figure it out!

She definitely has a mind of her own and I am sure she will be an adventure! She was 7lbs 6 oz and 20 inches long. She is perfect and just so pretty! We all (and I mean her parents and brothers) love her so much! Sometimes I think Patrick loves her too much, but I just keep an eye on him when he is around her! I love watching him with her, all of them actually!
